  • If you have a concern about your child during the CLUB158 class time.
  • If you are going to be late for pick-up or if someone else is picking up.

What Is CLUB158?

CLUB158 is an optional after-school program that is run by the Parents’ Association in support of PS158. There is a fee to participate, which will vary based on the number and type of classes your child(ren) are registered for. CLUB158 fees vary by class but they are competitive with market value.

If you register your child(ren) to participate in CLUB158 you must review and agree to all CLUB158 policies and procedures. This program is held at PS158 and therefore is in alignment with many of the guidelines set forth by the school but CLUB158 also has its own set of guidelines, policies and procedures in place, which are outlined below.

Policies & Procedures

CLUB158 fosters a harmonious environment where children feel safe. Please review these guidelines with your child so they may enjoy the program. All children should:

  • Follow the PS158 school guidelines for behavior including respecting others, our school property and adhering to all safety rules set forth during the school day.
  • Cooperate with CLUB158 supervisors and instructors.
  • Remain at their designated space while waiting for CLUB158 instructors to take them to class.
  • Remain with their instructors during class, until their parent/guardian signs them out at pick-up.
  • Adhere to COVID safety protocols at all times, which includes and not limited to, wearing a mask at all times.

Unacceptable behaviors include using profanity, disrespecting others and their space, failure to comply with directions, excessive horseplay, and inappropriate or violent physical contact.

There is a no cell phone / digital device policy; any students who have a cell phone / digital device must have it turned off and put away during CLUB158 hours.

CLUB158 will report incidents of unacceptable behavior to the parents/guardians of all children. If your child becomes disruptive or does something dangerous it may result in a suspension of the child’s next CLUB158 class. If the behavior continues it could lead up to dismissal from CLUB158. CLUB158 reserves the right to remove a child from the program for unacceptable behavior. Students are upheld to the same standard of behavior expected during school hours for students of PS158.

Please note: CLUB158 classes are open to select grade levels (e.g. K-2 or 3-5) this means that child(ren) from multiple classes will be combined for programming. By agreeing to participate in CLUB158 you are agreeing to your child(ren) not being in the classroom / grade-level pod as it takes place during the school day.

Check In and Attendance

**If your child was absent from school, they cannot attend CLUB158 classes that day**

  • At school dismissal, children enrolled in CLUB158 classes will be escorted to a designated area (pending their grade/class). They will be separated by CLUB158 class and assigned tables to wait at until picked up for the after-school programming.
  • Our CLUB158 supervisors will take attendance.
  • At 3:00pm, CLUB158 instructors will escort the children to their designated classroom.
  • If you know your child will be absent, please email the CLUB158 SUPERVISORS in advance.
  • Children must be in the building at the time of their PS158 dismissal in order to attend after-school programming. Students are allowed to be signed out of school (in alignment with school policies) but they must be signed back in the building by their school dismissal time in order to attend their after-school programming. Any students not in the building at 2:35pm will not be allowed to attend CLUB158 that day.

Dismissal & Pick-Up

CLUB158 dismissal is 5:00pm.

Students must be picked up at 5:00pm. Due to COVID protocols, there is NO late/extended day program offered at this time.

All CLUB158 classes end at 5pm, at which time, the instructors will bring the children to the Yard for pick-up. Parents/Guardians will pick up their child(ren) in the Yard.

Each child will be issued a 4 digit code; this code must be provided to the CLUB158 instructor in order to pick-up your child(ren). Additionally, parents/guardians will be required to sign out the student(s) as well.

In alignment with DOE protocols, all parents/guardians must wear a face mask during pick-up and while on school property.

We cannot release your child to anyone without parental consent. Please include all acceptable pick-up parties when registering your child on your CLUB158 online account. If the person picking your child up is not on that list, we CANNOT release your child to them. If you anticipate a person who is not on your list of authorized parties will pick-up your child, please notify CLUB158 in writing ahead of time. Please note, this person will be required to show a picture ID at pick-up.

For those with older children, if you would like your child to be dismissed to walk home please email CLUB158 (club158@ps158.org) with your approval. Please include what day(s) this approval applies to.

Early Pick-Up

Due to COVID protocols, CLUB158 must be notified ahead of time in writing for all non-emergency early pick-ups. Parents/guardians should enter through the school’s main entrance and tell the guard at the front desk that they are there to pick-up the child. The guard will alert a CLUB158 supervisor who will bring the child to the parent/guardian. Under no circumstances is a parent/guardian to go through the school to find a child.

Late Pick-Up

You must pick your child up from the yard immediately at dismissal. There is a grace period of 5 minutes, after which a late fee is charged. A fee will be charged for all late pick-ups: $20 for the first 6-15 minutes; $35 for each subsequent 15 minutes. Calling DOES NOT eliminate your obligation to pay this fee; although letting us know if you’re going to be late is greatly appreciated.

All children must vacate the building by 5:30pm by order of the School Safety Department/City of New York, and any person in violation of these procedures will be suspended from CLUB158 activities.

Other Attendance Protocols

We cannot refund for missed classes and no make-up classes are offered, this is inclusive of sick days (COVID and NON-COVID) as well as general absences.

Refund & Cancellation Policy

Please note: CLUB158 is not in session on holidays, school closures, half days or days when school is closed due to inclement weather. CLUB158 is unable to offer make-up classes or refunds for classes canceled due to holidays, half days or inclement weather.

  • 100% of the tuition will be refunded (less prorated fee for classes attended) if you withdraw the student AND notify us, in writing, within the first two weeks of classes. ($10 registration fee is non-refundable).
  • NO REFUNDS will be issued after the second week of classes.
  • Transfers will be allowed between classes, on the same day you are registered, until March 25th. AFTER THAT DATE, NO TRANSFERS WILL BE ALLOWED. There will be no exceptions.

We reserve the right to cancel classes with insufficient enrollment. If a class is canceled due to low enrollment, we will be happy to place your child in an alternative class or refund your tuition.

Summary Of Tuition & Fees

  • Full tuition is due by Friday March 11th, 2022. If you have not processed payment on your card at that time, we will process it via Jackrabbit, CLUB158's online registration portal.
  • Registration fee per student, per semester (non-refundable): $10.
  • Tuition per class/per semester: $475-$750, as specified.
  • Late pick-up fee (up to first 15 minutes after dismissal): $20.
  • Late pick-up fee (for each subsequent 15 minutes): $35.
  • Returned check fee: $30.

Health & Safety

There will NOT be a nurse on-site during CLUB158 hours.

If a child falls ill during CLUB158, the designated guardian will be called for immediate pick-up. The child will be removed from their classroom and will remain with the supervisor until the designated guardian arrives.

Supervisors will address any minor injuries or medical needs that arise (e.g. bandages, ice packs, EpiPens, etc.) Anything more urgent or requiring the attention of a medical professional will be addressed by calling 911 and the child(ren)’s guardians.

Guardians must report any positive COVID cases to a CLUB158 Manager or Supervisor. Given that all students at CLUB158 are also students at PS158, a positive COVID case will need to be reported to school, per current policies and procedures.

CLUB158 will follow the same DOE masking and distancing guidelines; children must wear masks throughout the entirety of the CLUB158 programming and classrooms and activities will be setup to ensure 3 ft of social distancing.

**Proof of vaccination is REQUIRED for attendance in CLUB158. Children will not be allowed to attend CLUB158 programming until their proof of vaccination is uploaded. Details on where this should be loaded will be emailed separately.**

If your child(ren) has had COVID within the last 90 days and is unable to be vaccinated at this time please reach out to CLUB158 directly at club158@ps158.org. You will need to provide student(s) name and the date of diagnosis. Proof of 1st vaccination will be required 100 (consecutive) days from the date of diagnosis. Families that do not comply will not be allowed to continue in CLUB158 programming.

Snacks

There will be no official snack time this semester. Families are welcome to send snacks in for their child(ren); the child(ren) will be encouraged to eat their snacks, as needed, throughout the after-school programming. They will do so in the way they do throughout the school day; pull down their mask for a bite, replace their mask while chewing, repeat as needed. By avoiding an entire class being maskless at the same time it will be limiting potential exposures. Families are not able to drop off snack during the day; if you want your child(ren) to have a snack, please send it in their backpacks to school.

Registration

Registration will take place online and is first come, first served.

If you would like to enroll in a class that is full, then you may register for the waitlist and you will be contacted with any openings.

The link for the online registration, along with detailed instructions, will be posted at ps158pa.org.

BROADWAY BOUND KIDS

Drama Club

Sing, act, dance, make new friends and become an important member of our theater troupe! Drama club is more than putting on a show. It's being part of team, expressing yourself, learning how to use your unique voice, and having fun. Drama club is created as a year-long program. In the first semester students received training in singing, dancing, acting and improvisation; laying the foundation for the full scale show this Spring. Students have been cast in a Broadway Jr. Musical that will be presented in June. Join us this year and shine on stage! Families may sign up for their preference of Tuesday or Thursday but after auditions, BBK reserves the right to move the student to another day to ensure that all students are given the greatest opportunity to shine. Every effort will be made to accommodate your preference. There will be virtual parent meetings throughout the year as well. Students who registered in the Fall will be given priority for Spring registration before this class is opened up to other students.

Improv

Can you imagine your student on the show, "Whose Line is it Anyway"? This fun and exploratory improv class is perfect for comedians of all levels! Students learn to think on their feet, develop confidence in their own creativity, and find their inner improv star. Teaching artists will guide the class to explore their imaginations, develop storytelling skills, increase stage presence, and have fun!

Hip Hop

It’s time to get your funk on: Join us for our Hip Hop class! Students in this energetic class will learn the slickest of moves, drawing inspiration from classic Hip Hop, Street Jazz and Funk. This class explores rhythm, syncopation, and coordination, and includes fun but challenging choreography. In Hip Hop, all are invited to express themselves!

Jr. Drama Club

Sing, act, dance and have fun in this exciting exploration of musical theater. This class is a great way to prepare younger students for the more advanced Drama Club as they will learn songs and dances from Broadway shows and we’ll also create some of our own dance moves and skits. We create a nurturing environment where kids can gain confidence and poise and explore their unique creativity through musical theater! Everyone will get a chance to shine! We will put on an entertaining show for our families and friends at the end of the semester. See you on stage!

Mix It Up Dance

This class is the ultimate dance mash-up. Students will learn dance moves from a wide range of styles including Jazz, Hip Hop, Theater, Contemporary, Ballroom, Ballet and more! This class will explore rhythm, technique, and expression, and students will have a blast learning different kinds of choreography.

Once Upon a Time

Combining elements of improv, storytelling, and theatre, this class leads students on an adventure to develop a story from their own imaginations! Mythical creatures, far-off landscapes, and anything the class dreams up can have a starring role. Students will hone their actor toolboxes, explore original characters, and work together as an ensemble to create a world-premiere, never-before-seen piece of theater!

Tap/Ballet

This mashup class teaches two classic styles of dance. Students will experience the discipline of ballet, building strength and control, as well as the exciting rhythm and energy of tap! Dancers will develop fundamental skills and learn vocabulary all while working on engaging choreography.

That’s My Jam

You know that moment when a song comes on and you MUST get up and dance?! That's every week in this fun, free style dance class That's My Jam! Students in this high energy dance class will groove to modern hits, and then help create the choreography. Student voice is centered in this creative, smile-inducing blast of a class.

STEM FOR KIDS

Civil Engineering - Embark on a building mission!

The tallest building in the world stands 2,700 feet tall – that’s over half a mile! How do civil engineers think and plan for such structures? In this program, our group of Civil Engineers learn the science of building structures and take baby steps towards working like a civil engineer to design structures like buildings, bridges and dams using simple materials. May the forces be with them on this awesome mission of close encounters with the “all fall down” gravity, thrilling balancing acts, bridging designs and the quest to make the tallest skyscraper! Will their designs survive the mighty weight, wind and earthquake?

Computer Science Fundamentals

Students will learn to program using commands like loops, sequencing and events. In this module, students' minds will work through a greater variety of puzzles and learn the basics of programming, collaboration techniques, investigation and critical thinking skills, persistence in the face of difficulty, and internet safety. By the end of the course, students will create interactive games that they can proudly call theirs and share.

Game Making Lab I - Create your own computer games!

Don’t Just Play. Make Your Own Computer Games!

In our Computer Game Making Lab, participants will explore the foundations of video game design then plan and create their own multi-level video games! Every video game must follow a basic story line which has five parts: setting, plot, characters, interactive objects and a goal. Just like an interesting movie or a book, these five parts together give the story a purpose. The video games our participants create will allow users to experience and control that story!

Our video-gamers-in-training, learn about:

  • Landscaping and environmental fabrication capabilities in video gaming to create the setting and mood.
  • Designing and programming characters to move in their game worlds.
  • Capturing event triggers to shift behaviors of the characters.
  • Adding power-ups, health and a timer.
  • Creating multi-level games.

The super-charged experience has a way of providing immediate gratification as the participants see the effect of their programmatic changes in their own gaming worlds. They may feel on top of the world because they get to decide how many lives the main character gets!

Minecraft - City Planning

K-2 Beginners Level (Prerequisite - Students should have prior experience of working on a computer.)

In this action filled building adventure, children will use the virtual world of Minecraft as they learn and apply civil, environmental and sustainable engineering practices to their virtual building projects. Students will time travel to the industrial age, modern age and to the future as they learn about stable and strong structures as they travel through time. They will learn about sustainability in cities and discuss how water, waste, transportation and energy/electricity worked in our past cities and how they are used today. Moving along, children will design a city of the future by applying what they learned from the cities of the past and current times. Projects include Train Transportation, Air Pollution Factories, Urban Design for Modern Cities, Year 4020, and more.

Motion Commotion I - Have fun with Motion!

A mechanical engineering adventure exploring the laws of motion. This program will take our engineers-in-making, into the land of moving things. They will experience the epic battle between inertia and motion.

Move away inertia, as this hands-on Motion Commotion session is sure to get everyone moving! 4C skills of communication, collaboration, critical thinking and creativity with engineering design challenges will be put to full use in this program.

Robotics I - Robotics is for everyone!

Participants learn the basics of computer programming and apply it to design robotic animals and soccer players. They will train their animals to move, sing and dance! From the sidelines, you may catch a glimpse of our exclusive Robotics Petting Zoo or the roar of the raving fans as your children’s robotic soccer players shoot a goal. This Robotics program bundles designing, building, problem-solving, computer programming, critical thinking, collaboration and communication into one exciting program.

Roller Coaster Design Lab - Energy, Motion and Roller Coasters

This program is designed to energize young scientists and engineers to think about energy, work and ways to make work easy! Join us on an exciting series of engineering design challenges where participants explore potential and kinetic energy as they design and build their fastest, coolest and longest roller coasters! Participants will learn about energy transformation and simple machines.

Activities include:

  • Catapulting Fun
  • Simple Machines Scavenger Hunt Roller Coaster Challenges
  • And more

Website Design Lab I - Weave your own web!

Fun Fact: Over 700,000 search queries are made on Google every minute! These searches lead us to various websites. What does it take to create one? In this beginner workshop students learn the fundamentals of web development in a project-based learning environment. Our future web developers will create a basic website from scratch and will also be introduced to webpage development using HTML and CSS.
