Policies & Procedures

Club158 fosters a harmonious environment where children feel safe. Please review these guidelines with your child so they may enjoy the program. All children should:

  • Respect others, their space and their property
  • Cooperate with CLUB158 supervisors and instructors
  • Remain at their designated table during snack and while waiting for CLUB158 instructors to take them to class
  • Remain with their instructors during class, until parent/guardian signs them out at pick-up

Unacceptable behaviors include using profanity, disrespecting others and their space, failure to comply with directions, excessive horseplay, and inappropriate or violent physical contact. CLUB158 may report incidents of unacceptable behavior to the parents/guardians of all children. If your child becomes disruptive or does something dangerous it may result in a suspension of the child’s next CLUB158 class. If the behavior continues it could lead up to dismissal from CLUB158. CLUB158 reserves the right to remove a child from the program for unacceptable behavior.

 

 

Check-in and Attendance

**If your child was absent from school, they cannot attend CLUB 158 classes that day**

  • At school dismissal, children enrolled in CLUB158 classes will be escorted to the small cafeteria by their classroom teacher(s).
  • Our Club158 supervisors will provide a snack and take attendance. Students are welcome to bring their own snack too.
  • If you know your child will be absent, please email CLUB158 in advance.
  • At 3:05pm, CLUB158 instructors will escort the children from the small cafeteria to the classroom.

 

 

Dismissal and Pick-Up

  • CLUB158 dismissal is 5:00pm.
  • Extended day dismissal is by 5:45pm.

 

All CLUB158 classes end at 5pm, at which time, the instructors will bring the children back to the cafeterias. If your child is enrolled in Extended Day, he/she will remain in the small cafeteria with the CLUB158 supervisors.

 

Parents/Guardians should enter through the school’s main entrance and go directly to the cafeteria to meet your child(ren) and sign them out with their instructor. Once you have your child(ren), please vacate the school immediately through the door in the small cafeteria.

 

We cannot release your child to anyone without parental consent. Please include all acceptable pick-up parties when registering your child. If the person picking your child up is not on that list, we CANNOT release your child to them. If you anticipate that a person that is not on your list of authorized parties will pick up your child, please notify CLUB158 in writing. Please note, this person will be required to show a picture ID at pick-up.

 

 

 

Early Pick-Up

Parent/Guardians should enter through the school’s main entrance and tell the guard at the front desk that they are there to pick up the child. The guard will alert a Club158 supervisor who will bring the child to the Parent/Guardian. Under no circumstances is a Parent/Guardian to go through the school to find a child.

 

 

Late Pick-Up

You must pick your child up from the cafeteria immediately at dismissal. There is a grace period of 5 minutes, after which a late fee is charged. A fee will be charged for all late pick-ups: $15 for the first 6-15 minutes; $20 for each subsequent 15 minutes. Calling DOES NOT eliminate your obligation to pay this fee; although letting us know if you’re going to be late is greatly appreciated.

 

All children must vacate the building by 6:00pm by order of the School Safety Department/City of NY, and any person in violation of these procedures will be suspended from CLUB158 activities.

 

 

Absence

We cannot refund for missed classes and no make-up classes are offered.

 

 

Refund & Cancellation Policy

Please note: Club158 is not in session on holidays, half days or days when school is closed due to inclement weather. CLUB158 is unable to offer make-up classes or refunds for classes cancelled due to holidays, half days or inclement weather.

  • 100% of the tuition will be refunded (less pro-rated fee for classes attended) if you withdraw the student AND notify us, in writing, by Friday March 6, 2020 ($10 registration fee is non-refundable)
  • 50% of the tuition will be refunded (less pro-rated fee for classes attended) if you withdraw the student AND notify us in writing, by Friday March 20, 2020 ($10 registration fee is non-refundable);
  • No refunds will be issued after these dates.

We reserve the right to cancel classes with insufficient enrollment. If a class is cancelled due to low enrollment, we will be happy to place your child in an alternative class or refund your tuition.

 

 

Class Change Policy

You may switch your child to another available class ONE TIME by Friday March 6, 2019 without a fee. After thisdate, there is a fee of $25.00 for each class change. Class admission is based on availability at the time of change.

 

 

Drop-In Classes

Many CLUB158 classes accept daily drop-in students. A one-time per student/per semester registration fee will be added to the first drop-in class fee, if you are not enrolled in any other CLUB158 classes.

Registration for drop-ins, including Extended Day, must be done in the PA Office, or by sending an email to dropinclub158@ps158.org by 1pm on the day of the drop-in and up to one week in advance.

 

 

Summary of Tuition & Fees:

  • Registration fee per student, per semester (non-refundable):  $10
  • Tuition per class/per semester:  $500-$750, as specified
  • Extended day tuition per day/per semester:  $120
  • Drop-in class:  $30 per class
  • Drop-in extended day (for students in Club158 class):  $10 per day
  • Late pick-up fee (up to first 15 minutes after dismissal):  $15
  • Late pick-up fee (for each subsequent 15 minutes):  $20
  • Class change fee (one-time switch is permitted free of charge until 3/6):  $25
  • Returned check fee:  $30

 

 

Registration

We strongly encourage all families to register online, even if you elect to pay by check or cash – registration is first come, first served. You are welcome to use the computers in the PA Office for registration, during school hours.

 

You may submit a completed registration form and waiver, in person, to the PA Office; however, your registration will not be entered into the system until the end of that day.

 

If you would like to enroll in a class that is full then you may register for the waitlist and you will be contacted of any openings.

MONDAYS

 

Mix it up Dance/ Choice Time COMBO  (K-1)  Broadway Bound Kids

Leap, jump, groove in this exciting dance class! Your child will learn dance moves from popular Broadway shows as well as cool hip-hop, jazz and modern dance pieces. The class will learn about rhythm, basic technique, expression, spatial awareness and choreography. We create a nurturing environment where kids can gain confidence and poise and explore their creativity through dance. At the end of the semester we will perform an original dance piece for family and friends.

CHOICE TIME: Not just your “regular choice time”, but rather a supervised, unstructured playtime in a room specifically created just for children! Each week, your child will have a variety of “choices” including pretend play items (i.e.: entire kitchen area), arts and crafts (easel, paints, etc.); blocks, board games, computer time or creative play. Enjoy some relaxing and fun playtime - an afternoon of choice!

 Tuition $585, class is limited to 18 children.

 

 

Pee Wee Sports (1-2)   Kids On Wheels

This is a diverse Multi-Sport program for your young sports star. Every week the young athletes will be introduced to a different sport, learn new skills and then separate into teams to play a game. We supply the expertise and equipment. All you bring is your enthusiasm!

Tuition $560, class is limited to 15 children.     

 

 

 Tae Kwon Do: Intermediate (1-3)    Mr.G

Have your child engage in a highly structured environment while advancing their Tae Kwon Do moves with our very own Mr. G. The class will begin to incorporate jumps, kick-spins and more advanced moves. There will be a “Parent Participation Day” and a performance at the end of the semester. This class is open to students with at least one year of Tae Kwon Do.

There may be additional fees for belt advancements if achieved.

Tuition $535, class is limited to 18 children.

  

 

Cooking (4-5)     Ms. Jessie

Join our resident chef as she introduces your child to basic cooking techniques as well as kitchen etiquette.  In this hands-on cooking class, your child will create a variety of delicious dishes incorporation seasonal vegetables and recipes.  See you in the kitchen!

 Tuition $535, class is limited to 12 children.

 

 

Tumble Weeds (K-1)    Kids on Wheels

Come and enjoy a fun filled tumbling experience. This class is specifically designed to teach your child body awareness, balance, floor gymnastics and of course tumbling...Safely. Learn forward and backward rolls, cartwheels, handstands, creative floor work using hoops and ribbons and much more!!

Tuition: $560, class is limited to 15 children.

 

 

Gaga (3-5)   Simply Sports              

Everyone is going Gaga for Gaga! Gaga is a fast paced, high energy sport played in an octagonal pit. Played with a soft foam ball, this safe game combines the skills of dodging, striking, running, and jumping, while trying to hit opponents with a ball below the knees. Players need to keep moving to avoid getting hit by the ball. Fun and easy, all children get a serious workout! Ga...Ga...Go!

Tuition: $610, class is limited to 18 children.

 

 

 Photography (3-5)    Mr. Levine

In this unique and dynamic class, students will gain an understanding of digital photography and Photoshop. Students will be encouraged to explore and use their imagination as they learn that art is all around them. The class will culminate with a portfolio presentation. Cameras and computers will be provided by CLUB 158. Instructor Andrew Levine is a professional photographer whose work has been featured in magazines, advertising, and gallery exhibitions.

Tuition: $560, class is limited to 15 children.

 

 

Arts & Crafts (K-2)    Ms. Mariana

 Color, paint, glitter, create and glue: this class is for you! Come have fun creating beautiful art projects such as posters, pictures, frames, puppets, mosaics, bookmarks, door hangers, mobiles, crowns and much more. Art will increase fine motor skills and improve manual dexterity! Help provide your child with a new set of skills for self-expression and communication! A new masterpiece sent home every class.

 Tuition: $535, class is limited to 15 children.

 

 

Design on a Dime (2-5)   Ms. Mirjam

 Buying clothing is fun, but nothing beats making your own outfits and accessories! Students will learn elements such as measuring, cutting fabric, using patters, stitching, drawing, design accessories and then show off their work at an end of semester party! Come ready to use your creativity and imagination!

 Tuition: $560, class is limited to 10 children.

 

 

Minecraft Exploration (K-5)   Mr. Alex

What child doesn’t like Minecraft?! What’s amazing is that through Minecraft children learn math and science concepts. The game also allows them to express their creativity, creating a world where they are in charge while working collaboratively with their friends.

D is for Dino (K-1)    Ms. Melissa

Learn all about Dinosaurs in this fun, hands on class! Explore the Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous eras through all sorts of project based activities: Dino digs, fossil hunts and “Dino of the Day” activities! You even get your own Dinosaur egg to take home with you!

Ballet & Tap/Choice Time COMBO (K-2)   Broadway Bound Kids

A new and exciting way to take two classes in one afternoon! Children will spend half of their after school time taking a Ballet/Tap class, and the other half in in Choice Time with Ms. Wally!

BALLET/TAP: This fun filled class introduces kids to two different styles of dance. As lessons progress, students develop grace, flexibility, balance, and strength while acquiring ballet vocabulary and mastering new ballet technique. In addition to developing a love for ballet, students enjoy the rhythmic sounds they make with their feet during the tap portion of class. Dancers practice new and exciting tap combinations in each lesson, which builds their motor and coordination skills. Ballet and tap shoes required.

Come make jewelry with Ms. Nayda! Learn how to make friendship bracelets, lanyards, rainbow loom, necklaces and more. After making your creations, you can bring them home to keep for yourself or to share with your friends and family.

 For Girls Only! Join Ms. Mariana as she teaches girls to play a variety of games, create art projects, bake, and a whole lot more!

Play team sports! Sports include but not limited to. Basketball, touch football, soccer, wiffle ball, hockey, dodge ball and kickball. The class is for both boys and girls and has become a tradition at PS 158.

Baseball 158 (1-3)   Kids on Wheels

 Our highly successful baseball program is back by popular demand. Learn about the fielding positions, base running, hitting, throwing, catching, and teamwork with fun drills and mini-games. Every class ends with a fun and exciting coach-pitch scrimmage where everyone gets a chance to take their cuts at the plate. All ages and skill levels welcome.

Scratch Coding with Ms. O (3-5)    Ms. O/Ms. Jamie

 Want to be able to tell a computer what to do? Than join us for scratch coding! Students will use scratch to design their own unique coding projects. Students will be encouraged to use their creativity to think outside ­­of the box and create projects that capture their imagination. “If you can imagine it, you can create it.”

Tuition: $560, class is limited to 20 children.

 

 

StageCraft! (3-5)   Broadway Bound Kids

Sketch, build, paint, imagine and design in this exciting class! You will get to work as a creative team to make sets and props for the Drama Club productions. You’ll start with an idea, turn it into a drawing, and then learn how to make it a reality. All you need is your creativity to learn all about the magic that goes on behind the scenes that brings the stage to life.

Tuition: $585, plus $20 materials fee. Class is limited to 10 children.

 

 

Mechanical Engineering-Motion Commotion (K-3)   STEM For Kids

Have fun with Motion! A mechanical Engineering adventure with the laws of motion. This program will take participants into the land of moving things. They experience the epic battle between inertia and motion. Move away inertia as the hands-on activities are sure to get everyone moving! Children get hands on, experience 4C skills of Communication, Collaboration, Critical Thinking and Creativity with engineering design challenges. 

Tuition: $560, class is limited to 16 children.

 

 

Club 158 Kids Yoga (K-2)   Ms. Amy L

Club 158 Kids Yoga will introduce kids to yoga practice through sessions that include individual and partner poses, meditation/mindfulness practice, play, music, crafts, and discussions.  Students will learn basic yoga poses and short sequences in a fun and playful way to promote strength, flexibility, coordination and body awareness. Kids Yoga aims to give young yogis tools that they may take with them throughout their lives that center around focus, relaxation and self-control as well as a feeling of well-being and respect for themselves and others.

Pro Art (3-5)  Mr. Alex

 Students will learn the skills of a professional artist to get a head start on their creative futures. Learn to draw in 3D with perspective, figures and portraits, developing their personal art style and cartoon characters, and learn advanced color techniques that can be applied to any art form, This class is a fun way to learn new ways to draw or to hone their creative talents.

Soccer 158 (K)   Simply Sports

 The world’s most popular sport is now available after-school! Simply sports will help your child to learn soccer basics like kicking, passing, and working together as a team. This is a great sport for motor skill development and spatial awareness. All sessions end with a fun scrimmage.

 Tuition: $535, class is limited to 18 children.

 

 

Arts & Crafts (K-2)  Ms. Maria

 Color, paint, glitter, create and glue: this class is for you! Gymnastics (K-5)    Gym Time

Children will be taken to Gym Time Gymnastics, where the class builds basic skills in each of the 4 gymnastics events: vault, bars, beam and floor exercises, as well as jumping on the Tumble Trak. Practicing on state-of-the-art, Olympic regulation-size equipment, students develop the strength, flexibility, coordination and confidence to perform a range of skills. Working with USA Gymnastics certified coaches, more advanced students will master advanced skills such as handstands, cartwheels, back walkovers, pull-overs, back hip circles and much more.

Tuition: $735, class is limited to 40 children, groups are based on age and ability.

Coding Club (2-5)   Little Makers Lab

Want your child to love coding? Back by popular demand, have your kids join this exciting coding club! Students will learn fundamental programming concepts with a Lego-like visual language. We will use Scratch3.0, a complete learning system that teaches kids to code in a fun and exciting way.

Students begin experimenting with visual blocks to learn the concepts of loops, variables, conditionals, and functions that form the basis for all programming languages, then progress to JavaScript and Python as they develop skills and gain confidence in their new abilities. They will also learn to create video games.

Tuition: $610 and class is limited to 16 children.

Chess Club (K-5)    Tri-State Chess

Students will be placed into groups according to grade and chess-playing ability. Beginner students will learn the rules of the game, how to move pieces, chess notation, and other fundamentals. Intermediate students will learn opening strategies and formations as well as traps and checkmate patterns. More advanced students will learn more of the above with increasing complexity, including the art of sacrifice, attack and defense. Trophies will be awarded to all students who complete the semester. During the class students enjoy some free time, then a 45 minute lesson followed by supervised chess play. PS 158 hosts two Scholastic Chess Championships annually.

Beginner Spanish (K-2)   Ms. Nayda

Learning Spanish is fun and exciting with Ms. Nayda. Your child will learn the basics of the alphabet and then move on to reading and writing!

Junior Drama Club (1-2)    Broadway Bound Kids

Sing, act, dance and have fun in this exciting exploration of musical theater. This class is a great way to prepare younger students for the more advanced Drama Club as they will learn songs and dances from Broadway shows and we’ll also create some of our own dance moves and skits. We create a nurturing environment where kids can gain confidence and poise and explore their unique creativity through musical theater! Everyone will get a chance to shine! We will put on an entertaining show for our families and friends at the end of the semester. See you on stage!

Play all kinds of sports and games with Simply Sports. If you can imagine it, we can play it. Wiffle ball, basketball, kickball, tag. These are just some of the games we will be enjoying. Ball, no ball, it doesn’t matter because it’s all about the fun. Imaginations welcome.

Hoop Dance (K-5)     Fitnotics

 Students are guaranteed to have the time of their lives, learning how to HoopDance. They will be challenged physically and mentally as they learn how to hoop on various parts of their body, execute "tricks," and work together to develop choreography. Their creativity, self-esteem and confidence will be enhanced with opportunities to demonstrate their newly acquired skills in  front of their peers. Class will culminate in an exciting HoopDance performance at the end of the semester. No prior dance or hula hooping skills are necessary. Hoops will be provided.

Storybooks Come Alive (K-2)   Ms. Jessica

 In this class children will connect storybooks to the arts and sciences. Each week we will read a beloved storybook, and use drama, dance, art, or science to fully immerse ourselves in literature. The focus will be to enhance reading skills, and use an interdisciplinary approach to extend knowledge and understanding. Children will be given choices and stations to work with. At the end of each class, children will share or perform their creations with their classmates.

Music, Movement and Play (K-1)    Ms. Emily L

In our exciting new music and movement class, students will learn and sing songs, create their own musical instruments and learn simple line dances! Students will learn about rhythm and interpretive movement using instruments and props like scarves and feathers. We are excited to rock out!!!

Arts & Crafts/Recess Games COMBO (K-2)     Ms. Nayda & Ms. Jessie

A new and exciting way to take two classes in one afternoon! Children will spend half of their after school time taking an Arts & Crafts class, and the other half in in Recess Games!

ARTS & CRAFTS: Color, paint, glitter, create and glue: this class is for you! Come have fun creating beautiful art projects such as posters, pictures, frames, puppets, mosaics, bookmarks, door hangers, mobiles, crowns and much more. RECESS GAMES: Kids will have a blast playing traditional recess games with our very own staffers, Ms. Jessie and Ms. Nayda. Weather-permitting, the kids will play games outside, like hopscotch, tag, hula-hoops, red light – green light, Mr. Fox and more. A great way to end a school day, get exercise and have fun.

Chess Club (K-5)    Tri-State Chess

Students will be placed into groups according to grade and chess-playing ability. Beginner students will learn the rules of the game, how to move pieces, chess notation, and other fundamentals. Intermediate students will learn opening strategies and formations as well as traps and checkmate patterns. More advanced students will learn more of the above with increasing complexity, including the art of sacrifice, attack and defense. Trophies will be awarded to all students who complete the semester. During the class students enjoy some free time, then a 45 minute lesson followed by supervised chess play. PS158 hosts two Scholastic Chess Championships annually.

Gaga (K-2)     Simply Sports

 Everyone is going Gaga for Gaga! Gaga is a fast paced, high energy sport played in an octagonal pit. Played with a soft foam ball, this safe game combines the skills of dodging, striking, running, and jumping, while trying to hit opponents with a ball below the knees. Players need to keep moving to avoid getting hit by the ball. Fun and easy, all children get a serious workout! Ga...Ga...Go!

Dribble, pass, and shoot in our basketball class specifically for girls. Learn the pick and roll, layups, dribbling with both hands, and many more fundamentals to bring your game up to the next level. Build endurance and gain speed with our specifically designed skills to make basketball even more fun.

Sing, act, dance, make new friends and become an important member of our theater troupe! Drama club is more than putting on a show. It's being part of team, expressing yourself, learning how to use your unique voice, and having fun. Drama club is created as a year-long program. In the first semester you will receive training in singing, dancing, acting and improvisation. You will also create a revue show with sets, props and costumes to present in December. In January you will be cast in a Broadway Jr. Musical that will be presented in June. Join us this year and shine on stage! Families may sign up for their preference of Thursday or Friday, but after auditions, BBK reserves the right to move the student to another day to ensure that all students are giving the greatest opportunity to shine. Every effort will be made to accommodate your preference. There will be parent meetings throughout the year as well.

Website Design Lab I (2-5)     STEM for Kids

Weave your own Web! Over 700,000 search queries are made on Google every minute! These searches lead us to various websites. What does it take to create one? This program includes introduction to web design and development. It is designed for students who have no prior experience with web design and development.

Tae Kwon Do: Advanced (By invitation only) (3-5)    Mr. G

This advanced Tae Kwon Do class is for children who have 2-3 years of Tae Kwon Do experience and is only by invitation. This class will include jumps, side and spin kicks, and various complex stances, strikes, and blocks. Children will advance their Tae Kwon Do moves in a highly structured environment with our very popular instructor, Mr. G. There will be a “Parent Participation Day” and a performance at the end of the semester. There may be additional fees for belt advancements if achieved.

Architectural Adventures (K-1)     Ms. Mirjam/Ms. Mariana

Students will be exploring building and their own creativity by using and experimenting with blocks, Legos, Magna Tiles, and other materials. We will study buildings and blueprints and create  wonderful masterpieces! We will design our own buildings and act like architects, bringing buildings to life starting from blueprints and ending with three dimensional creations. The students will have the chance to build both independently and collaboratively with their friends.

Take it back to the days when after school was spent running around, playing sports with your friends, laughing. This sports classes offers all of that. Your child will play basketball, dodgeball, hockey, football, as well as games the class creates together. Come run, jump, laugh, compete, create lasting bonds.

Maker Lab (1-5)    Little Maker Lab

Come join this exciting Maker Lab! – where your Maker will learn STEAM (Science Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) principles through hands-on projects involving arts, engineering and science. Students will be encouraged to attend Maker Fair together.  Our experienced instructors will also use LittleBits, a platform of electronic building blocks empowering kids to be inventors. Our hope is to encourage students to fall in love with STEM through learning by doing. Kids will be divided into groups based on age, but siblings will be kept together if preferred. A maker’s dream afterschool program!.

 Students will learn the skills of a professional artist to get a head start on their creative futures. Learn to draw in 3D with perspective, figures and portraits, developing their personal art style and cartoon characters, and learn advanced color techniques that can be applied to any art form, This class is a fun way to learn new ways to draw or to hone their creative talents.

Junior Chefs with (K-1)     Ms. Jessie/Ms. Mirjam

Look mom, look dad I can cook! Join our resident chef as she introduces your child to basic cooking techniques as well as kitchen etiquette. The class is designed to teach young chefs the fundamentals of cooking in a safe, hands-on, creative environment. Your child will create a variety of delicious foods. See you in the kitchen!

Tennis (1-2)     Children’s Athletic Training School

This program uses the USTA and the International Tennis Federation guidelines. The lessons focus on developing tennis skills on a size appropriate scale using smaller courts, low compression balls and smaller rackets (provided). Fun is the name of the game while we develop skills in a supportive environment.

Tae Kwon Do: Beginner (1-3)   Mr. G

Come join our always popular Tae Kwon Do class! Have your child engage in a highly structured environment while learning their Tae Kwon Do moves with our very own, very amazing, Mr. G. Little hands were made to create. Ms. Nayda gets the kids busy and messy bringing life to your kids’ imaginations using arts and crafts like molding and sculpting in a variety of mediums like clay, papier-mâché, fabric and more. Children will see their creations take form as they complete the project from start to finish.

What child doesn’t like Minecraft?! What’s amazing is that through Minecraft children learn math and science concepts. The game also allows them to express their creativity, creating a world where they are in charge while working collaboratively with their friends.

Simply Sports will help your child develop the skills they need to be successful in sports, but we will do this playing fun offbeat sports like Capture the Flag, Kickball, Dodgeball, Gaga, Wall Ball, Handball, Castle Ball, Whiffle Dodge and many more offbeat sports. Your child will not realize the skills they are developing because they will be having so much fun!
